September 21, 2007 To get to Burg Eltz, we  walked from the train station through a small town called Moselkern.  Eventually, we found ourselves on a hiking path in the forest.  About 1 hour and 10 minutes later we arrived at the castle. The views through the hike were breathtaking. We were lucky enough to see this area during the season change.  This was probably our favorite part of the whole trip!

This is barricade built by enemies who tried to take over the castle. After about 5 years, they gave up.

Burg Eltz has been around since 12th century and is probably one of the best perserved in Europe. The Eltz family still owns it after 33 generations/800 years! There are 80 rooms and 40 fireplaces.

This was a sign posted in the town. It's pretty self explanatory. Makes me laugh.
